There have been so many issues regarding security with the recent development in the computer industry. There are threats of viruses which are programs which spread and responsible of unwanted actions inside the computer. These viruses are like biological viruses which spread when it is initiated. Most of the viruses can damage applications, operating systems and other data files. The intention of the programs will decide whether it is virus or not.

All users are very much concerned about the security of their computers against viruses and they have installed virus scanners in their computers. There are many types of the viruses which can attack the computers. Boot sector viruses, file infecting viruses and macro viruses are some of the common types of the viruses.

Boot sectors are first sectors of the floppy or hard drives. The operating systems will get all the required details for booting from these sectors. These files will be used whenever computer is booted. The boot data will be rewrite when you format it. There are many chances of viruses to attack these sectors. If you have an infected floppy disk left in the drive, the infections will get into computer through boot sectors when it is restarted. It will then spread in the hard disk as well as in external devices which are connected to the computer after infection which can ultimately result in boot failure.

Macro viruses are also there which account 75% of the total viruses around the world. The macros can enter the computer through data storage devices, networks and internet. The macros viruses don’t attack the applications and they just affect the macro programming languages which are used in the like Microsoft Word and Excel. These macro viruses will spread when affected files are opened. These macros can also affect other computers if infected files are shared.

File infecting virus is third type of viruses. These viruses attack all executable and command files in the computer. These viruses will spread to other attached files when infected file is executed. The effect of infection of these viruses depends on the developers of these viruses. There can be many purposes of viruses like it can be written for file destruction, overwriting boot sectors or for the installation of the backdoor program.
